Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!

Brad woke up around 7:30 in the morning and woke Paige up, got her dressed and went to the grocery store. They returned about 8:00 bearing Hot Pink roses, cards, donuts, and a fancy glass of milk delivered to me in bed!

Daisy actually slept in which was nice (her gift to me)! The 3 of us chilled on the bed for a while and then Brad had to go off to work.  We chilled around the house all morning, I baked a cake for my mom for mothers day, one she's wanted to try for a long time. It's a Chocolate Malt cake. I got the recipe from a Paula Deen magazine.

We all got ready for church and met the rest of the family at my Mom and Dad's ward.  It was a tough meeting. My Dad spoke and did a great job. He talked about great mother's like Mary and Elisabeth, Emma Smith, Sister Hinckley, and my Grandma Smith.  My heart went out to my Mom because this is the first Mother's Day without her Mom.  I miss her soooooo much, I can't even imagine how hard it was to go through the day wanting to talk to your mom and her not being there.  She was a great example of what a mother should be and a true example of Christ and service. My Dad definitley did a fabulous job sharing what her life stood for. I love my Mom! After church I made dinner for her too, for mother's day. She wanted Chicken a'la King, another Paula Deen recipe. DELICIOUS!

After dinner we had to leave to meet Brad at his Mom's house so we took a cake and funny little plant holder that Paige picked out(it was really cute!)over to their house. We missed them though so we had to leave it all there on the counter for her to come home to. Brad's Dad had come home for the weekend and they decided to go see Iron Man 2. We came home and put the girls to bed and relaxed for a while before going to bed. It was a great day! I'm lucky to be a Mom!

Here are the recipes of the things I made today if you're interested in trying them, they are both fabulous!

2 1/4 Cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 Cups sugar
3/4 Cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 cup malted milk powder
1 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
Chocolate malt Icing (recipe follows)
Garnish: malted milk balls

~Preheat oven to 350*. Grease and flour 3 (9-inch) cake pans. (I only used 2 pans so the cake layers were a little thicker).
~In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
~In a small bowl, combine milk and malted milk powder, stirring to dissolve. Add milk mixture, oil, and eggs to flour mixture, beating at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Add sour cream and vanilla, beating just until combined. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans, and bake for 20 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes. Remove cakes from pans and let cool completely on wire racks. Spread Chocolate Malt Icing between layers and on top and sides of cake. Garnish with Malted milk balls, if desired.
